Dept. of Community & Economic Development & Planning

The Department of Community and Economic Development and Planning (CEDP) is the catalyst for development in the City.

CEDP promotes the city to encourage all types of development, be it commercial or residential and works with businesses and developers to obtain results. The Department works to help businesses locate in the city and assists businesses already in the city to expand or relocate within the city limits.

CEDP is also home to the Canton Community Improvement Corporation (CCIC). The CCIC is a non profit organization providing economic development programs to businesses and also administers the Ohio Enterprise Zone.

Several Federal Grants are applied for and administered through Canton’s CEDP. Working through the Federal Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD), CEDP is the funding mechanism for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME and Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG) funds. These dollars are used to promote and provide programs for low and moderate income families to maintain and repair their housing stock.

CEDP houses the City’s Planning Department. This Department assists City departments and the citizenry in economic development, housing programs, historic reviews, zone changes, street and alley vacations, subdivision development and other work. It also provides staff assistance to the City’s Planning Commission. The Department is also the developer of various grant applications on state and federal levels concerning economic development and brownfield matters.
