Meet Mayor Healy

Mayor William J. Healy II was elected as the next Mayor of the city of Canton on November 6, 2007. He took office following his inauguration on January 1, 2008.

Prior to being elected Mayor of Canton, he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2004 and 2006, and is currently serving his second term in office. His district includes all of the City of Canton and Canton Township, as well as portions of Plain and Perry Townships.

Healy founded and was President of the Austin Healy Group Inc., a strategic marketing consulting firm that represented clients throughout the Eastern United States and Canadian markets.

He holds an Associates Degree in Science from Kent State University, a Bachelors Degree in Marketing from Rowan University (summa cum laude) in New Jersey, and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Management from the Stern School of Business at New York University.

In the legislature, Healy served on committees that are important to the City of Canton. As a member of the Local and Municipal Government Committee, he considered issues that are key to Canton's future. On the House Ways and Means Committee, he ensured that Ohioans receive a fair shake when it comes time to consider existing and new taxes. Finally, as a member of the Financial Institutions, Real Estate, and Securities Committee, Healy established himself as a staunch consumer advocate on multiple issues, while keeping the interests of Ohio businesses in mind.

Healy is a member of the Executive Committee of the Stark County Democratic Party and also is a Democratic Precinct Committee Person in Canton - Ward 8, Precinct F.

Healy is a member of the Greater Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce; member of the Dean's Advisory Board at Kent State Stark Campus, an associate member of the American Legion Post 44; guest member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3747; member of the Canton Negro Oldtimers Athletic Association; member of the Ohio Domestic Violence Network; member of the Jefferson–Jackson Democratic Club of Greater Canton; member of the Greater Stark County Urban League, lifetime member of the McKinley High School Alumni Association, member of the Stark County NAACP and a member of the Congressional Youth Leadership Council's Honorary Board.

Rep. Healy has been married to his wife, Dee, since 1997. They have a son, Austin, and own a home in the City of Canton.
