Code Enforcement
(Housing Enforcement)
The City of Canton is responsible to its citizens to see that the housing stock in the City is maintained in decent, safe and sanitary condition. In accordance with Section 1357.02 of the codified Ordinance, non-owner occupied properties are required to be registered with this division. Once the properties are registered, an initial inspection is conducted with the areas of electric, plumbing, heating and Code being emphasized. A time limit of 120 days from the inspection date is authorized for completion of all repairs/violations that are found as a result of this inspection. The ultimate goal of the registration/inspections is to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy which has a 5 year limit on single/duplex building, and a 3 year limit on 3 or more unit buildings.
Vacant buildings must also be registered, secured and maintained.
