Inspections

Please use your permit number and address of project when requesting an inspection.

Inspections are performed Monday through Friday. Once a request for inspection has been made, if an actual time has not been scheduled, the inspector has 48 hours to make that inspection.

All permits must be posted and sites properly identified prior to calling for an inspection.

Inspections required are footing(before you pour), foundation (prior to backfilling), roughs (before walls are covered), additional inspections that may be required and finals (before occupancy). Finals must be called and scheduled to close out the permits. If the work has not been inspected, it is still a liability to the contractor. One working day's notice (24 hours) is required for scheduling inspections.

It is the contractor's responsibility to call for inspections appropriate to the sequence of work to determine if work in place conforms to the permits obtained and/or approved plans (OBC 4101:2-1-31). When work is complete, the contractor (not the owner) shall call to schedule all appropriate inspections and the final inspection.

The closing or covering of any work prior to the inspection, shall be uncovered at the contractor's expense.

A final inspection scheduled will consist of all divisions included for the project including building, plumbing, electric, HVAC, Health if required and Fire. Make sure that all rough inspections were completed and testing for the fire sprinklers and/or fire alarms have been completed before you call for a final inspection.

All buildings must have a Certificate of Use and Occupancy issued by the Chief Building Official prior to occupancy (OBBS 4101-201-27) and after final inspections, approvals, and all fees and penalties have been paid.
