LICENSE RENEWAL

WE DO NOT SEND OUT RENEWAL NOTICES !

TO RENEW A HOME IMPROVEMENT CONTRACTOR/SALESMAN LICENSE:

  1. The previous year's license number.
  2. A copy of your driver's license with your picture.
  3. A properly executed bond for the amount of $10,000 on the City of Canton's bond form with the ending date of February 28 and signed on the principal line by the same person as the certificate holder (this bond form is to be taken to an insurance or bonding company of your choice); OR a continuation certificate based on the previous year's bond from the same insurance/bonding company. NO riders will be accepted.
  4. FOR A CONTRACTOR: A check for $150 made out to the City of Canton. FOR A SALESMAN: A check for $35 made out to the City of Canton. (A $75 late fee for contractors and $25 for salesmen shall be assessed for license renewals after February 28th of each year).
  5. The name, company name, address, city, state, zip code and telephone number of the certificate holder on company letterhead or plain paper if this information has changed.
  6. Proof of Worker's Compensation even if you are self-employed.

TO RENEW A REGISTERED PLUMBING, ELECTRIC, OR HVAC CONTRACTOR:

  1. The previous year's license number.
  2. A copy of your driver's license with your picture.
  3. A Business & Corporation Information Sheet from the City of Canton Income Tax Department must be completed and signed on the back.
  4. A copy of your up-to-date state Department of Commerce contractor License ONLY, which includes your State ID Number, Name and Address, Type of Contractor, Certification Expiration Date, and Position.
  5. A properly executed bond for the amount of $10,000 on the City of Canton's bond form with the ending date of February 28 and signed on the principal line by the same person as the certificate holder (this bond form is to be taken to an insurance or bonding company of your choice); OR a continuation certificate based on the previous year's bond from with the same insurance/bonding company. NO riders will be accepted.
  6. A check for $150 made out to the City of Canton on or before February 28 of each year without the requirement of reapplication. A $75 late fee shall be assessed for license renewals after February 28th of each year.
  7. The name, company name, address, city, state, zip code and telephone number of the certificate holder on letterhead or plain paper if this information has changed.
  8. Proof of Worker's Compensation even if you are self-employed.

TO RENEW A REGISTERED PLUMBING OR ELECTRIC JOURNEYMAN:

  1. The previous year's license number.
  2. A check for $15 made out to the City of Canton for the registration fee on or before February 28 of each year without the requirement of re-application. A $20 late fee shall be assessed for license renewals after February 28th of each year.
  3. A Resident Information Sheet from the City of Canton Income Tax Department must be completed and signed on the back.
  4. A copy of your driver's license with photo identification.
  5. The name, address, city, state, zip code and telephone number of the journeyman if this information has changed.
  6. The name, address, city, state, zip code and telephone number of your employer.

TO RENEW A REGISTERED PLUMBING OR ELECTRIC APPRENTICE:

  1. The previous year's license number.
  2. A Resident Information Sheet from the City of Canton Income Tax Department must be completed and signed on the back.
  3. The applicant shall submit appropriate proof and documentation that the applicant presently is engaged in learning the plumbing/electrical trade by being indentured in a training program registered with and approved by the U.S. Department of labor, of Apprenticeship and Training and that the applicant is presently learning and being instructed in the plumbing/electrical trade by working under the direct supervision of a/an plumbing/electrical contractor or journeyman plumbing/electrician.
  4. A copy of your valid driver's license with photo.
  5. A $10 registration fee on or before February 28 of each year without the requirement of reapplication. A $10 late fee shall be assessed for renewals after February 28th of each year.
  6. The name, company name, address, city, state, zip code and telephone number of the apprentice on plain paper if this information has changed.

YEARLY LICENSE RENEWAL

ACTIVE contractors and journeymen may renew their active license/registration anytime after Thanksgiving for the new year/licensing period.
