Vice/Intelligence Unit

In 2004, the Criminal Intelligence/Vice Unit ("vice Unit") was comprised of five (5) patrolmen/detectives, a sergeant, and an officer in charge, with the rank of lieutenant.

The responsibilities of the Vice Unit include narcotics investigations, organized crime investigations, liquor violations and intelligence gathering and dissemination in collaboration with numerous State and Federal agencies. In 2004, the Vice Unit executed and assisted in the investigations, arrests and prosecutions of high-profile and interstate drug offenders and violent offenders; performed street-level drug interdiction; provided undercover security at public and political events; and responded to community complaints involving drug sales, liquor violations, gambling offenses and prostitution. In 2004, the Vice Unit responded to over 1,000 citizen complaints, which included direct telephone calls and emails.

NARCOTICS INVESTIGATION, ARRESTS AND PROSECUTIONS:

In 2004, the Vice Unit investigate 364 narcotics cases resulting in the execution of 39 search warrants, some of which involved the department's SWAT Team and working in collaboration with other area law enforcement agencies. These investigations resulted in 198 separate narcotic arrests which included 195 adult arrest and 3 juvenile arrests.

The Vice Unit successfully seized and forfeited either motor vehicles, 102 firearms and 128 rounds of ammunitions. Contraband seized included 1,981 grams of crack cocaine, 34,602.37 grams of powder cocaine, 96,511.30 grams of marijuana, 160 cultivated marijuana plants, 11 grams of methamphetamine, and 55 grams of pseudoephedrine - with a total estimated street value of $3,080,351.
